According to the Henley Passport Index 2023 (last released in January), which is updated on a quarterly basis, the Japanese passport is currently the most powerful passport in the world.
The passports from 227 different countries are compared, and the ranking is created based on the number of countries their holders are permitted to visit without a visa obtained before travel. The Japanese can now enjoy visa-free travel to 193 destinations.
