Cambodia Visa Extension

Types of Cambodia visas

A Cambodian visa is necessary for almost all foreign citizens who are entering Cambodia. Decide which type you need and ensure you meet all the requirements to enjoy your stay without inconvenience.

Tourist Visa (T)

It is a single-entry tourist visa, which is valid for 3 months and enables a 30-day stay in Cambodia. All travelers who would like to travel for tourism purposes should apply for this type of visa. They need to complete the visa application form, prepare a valid passport, and cover the necessary fee.

Business Visa (E)

A business (E) visa is a single-entry permit valid for 3 months that allows staying in the country for up to 30 days. It is designed for people who accepted a job offer, received an invitation from a company, or need to deal with business purposes in Cambodia.

Khmer Visa (K)

This visa type is a multiple-entry permit valid until the expiration of the passport. It can be issued for Cambodians or children of Cambodian parent. It is a sticker visa, so it needs to be affixed to the passport page.

Diplomatic (A), Official (B), and Courtesy (C) Visa

If you meet the specific requirements of these Cambodian visas (have supporting documents, such as an official letter from the Department of State, a passport valid for 6 months, etc.), you can apply for those visa types for free.

Who needs a visa for Cambodia

All travelers who want to visit Cambodia must obtain a visa regardless of nationality. It is advisable to check all the requirements and eligibility for certain visa types before starting an application process.

How and where to apply for a Cambodia visa

The process of applying depends on the visa type. Generally, most visitors decide to get a visa on arrival, however, you can also pick an online visa or traditional one by contacting the nearest embassy or consulate.

Visa on arrival

You can obtain a visa on arrival when you enter Cambodia at the international airports (Phnom Penh or Siem Reapor) or at the official checkpoints at the following land border crossing:

  • with Thailand: Poipet, Cham Yeam (Koh Kong), O’Smach
  • with Laos: Dom Kralor
  • with Vietnam: Bavet, Kha Orm Sam Nor.

Electronic visa

You can also pick an e-Visa – a permit that can be obtained online without visiting the embassy or consulate. It is a very convenient and straightforward option.

To apply for an e-Visa, you only need to visit the website, complete the application form, cover the fee, and wait for the processing. Then, check the email and receive the PDF version of your Cambodia visa online.

Regular visa

You can also choose a regular Cambodian visa and apply in person at the embassy or consulate. This visa is valid for 30 days, and it could be extended.

Extending your Cambodia visa

Visa extensions for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months are available for the E-class types. The 1 or 3 months option is treated as a single-entry permit, while 6 and 12 as multiple-entry one. In the case of a 30-day tourist visa, you can extend it for an additional 1 month.

EB visa extension

This visa extension is designed for Cambodian expats (including workers, freelancers, and volunteers, as well as their partners and children). It is a renewable extension that can be used for multiple entries to the country.

Employment letters and proof of the relationship of the EB visa holders must be submitted by their spouses and children. People with a registered business or are self-employed must write a confirmation letter with a business stamp.

Remember that it is not a work permit, and you need to have proper documents to seek employment in Cambodia.

EG visa extension

This extension is designed for people searching for a job in Cambodia. It can be used for a 1, 3, or 6-month longer stay. However, it is not the best option for visitors who have already been long-term in Cambodia.

ER extension

This visa extension is for those who have retired and can prove that they are able to support themselves financially. It is worth noting that employed people can’t use this extension.

ES extension

It is a student visa issued for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months. A letter from a registered Cambodian school and evidence of sufficient funds are necessary to apply for it.

Overstaying your Cambodia visa

It is not possible to overstay a visa for Cambodia. You can be fined or even deported if you do so. Be careful about the dates to enjoy your stay without problems.
