Thailand eVisa – Basic information

A Thailand eVisa was implemented in 2021 by the Thai government in order to simplify the process of applying for a visa. No embassy or consulate visit is needed anymore. You just need a valid passport, face photo, return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds.

A Thai eVisa is a single-entry permit, so you can enter Thailand only once with it. It can be used for tourism, business, medical treatment, transit, visiting friends/family, or investments. Besides, it is valid for 3 or 6 months, and you can stay in the country for up to 60 days as its holder.

The process is done entirely online, so you can obtain a visa from any part of the world. Firstly, check the requirements and prepare the necessary documents. Secondly, take part in the visa application process. Complete the form, cover the fee, and wait for a confirmation email. Then, you will receive your eVisa in PDF form via email.

Who needs an eVisa to Thailand?

Thailand eVisa types

A tourist visa for Thailand can be used for the following purposes:

• tourism, sightseeing, leisure
• visiting friends and family
• medical treatment
• MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, & Exhibitions) approved by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

Besides, we can distinguish the following Thai visa types:

• a business and investor visa (non-immigrant B/IB)
• a study visa (non-immigrant ED)
• a family visit visa (non-immigrant O)
• a transit visa
• a long-stay visa (for one or five years, and it can be extended)

eVisa Thailand validity

The tourist visa to Thailand is valid for either 3 or 6 months from the date of issue. As its holder, you can visit Thailand only once as it is a single-entry permit for up to a 60-day stay.

Remember that your passport must be valid as well for at least 6 months. Also, note that the validity period and length of stay differ depending on the visa type.

Thailand eVisa requirements

To obtain a Thailand tourist visa, you must prepare the following documents:

• a passport that is valid for at least 6 months
• a photo of the face
• a copy of the return ticket
• proof of sufficient funds.

If you apply for a different visa type to Thailand, you may need to prepare additional documents. Besides, remember to have a printed copy of the eVisa and a valid passport on arrival, as they will be checked by the proper authorities at the border crossing.

Transit information

You don’t need to apply for a transit visa if:

• Your connecting flight is scheduled to depart within 12 hours of arrival in Thailand.
• You will not leave the transit zone at the airport.
• You have the necessary documents for your final destination.
• Your flight is booked on the same ticket.

In another case, you must obtain a transit visa. Note that the exemption may not be available to Pakistani nationals or travelers who intend to fly with specific airlines.
