Traveling with an Ugandan passport

Ugandan passport is an official document issued to Uganda citizens for international travel. Ugandan passports are processed by Government of Uganda through the Directorate of Immigration Control (DCIC). They may be held exclusively by persons that are proven to be citizens of Uganda. In January, Uganda government implemented new e-passports.

Currently, Ugandan passport has 77th place in the Henley Passport Index. Ugandan citizens can travel to 39 visa-free countries only with a valid passport on hand. Uganda passport holders can also get an e-Visa to 10 travel destinations, a visa on arrival in 26 countries, and a regular visa to 151 countries.

Ugandan passport application process

Ugandan passports can only be issued to and held by the Uganda citizens. The citizenship of Uganda can be acquired by birth, registration, and naturalization.

To apply for an Ugandan passport, it is necessary to follow the procedures prescribed by the Government of Uganda:

1. Go to the Passport Portal, accept its terms and conditions and answer security questions.
2. Fill out the passport application form.
3. Print Passport Application Payment Advice Form and cover the fees in the selected bank.
4. Schedule appointment and print Passport Application Appointment Form.

Countries where Ugandan passport holders travel visa-free

Uganda citizens can travel without a visa to a number of countries. It allows to avoid spending additional time and money and makes traveling a more enjoyable experience overall. To enter visa-exempted countries, Uganda nationals do not have to prepare a long list of documents – it is enough have a valid Ugandan passport or e-Passport.

A visa on arrival is available for Uganda nationals in 26 countries. An on-arrival visa does not require any prearrangement: travelers are able to receive it upon arrival at the entry point.
