Tanzania eVisa general information

Tanzania eVisa is an online visa for eligible foreigners who want to enter the country. It has been launched by the Tanzanian Government to make the application process effortless and attract more travelers.

Tanzanian online visa is a single-entry visa valid for a 30-day stay in the country. US citizens are able to apply for a multiple-entry visa to Tanzania which stays effective for one year and permits a 90-day stay.

Types of Tanzania electronic visas

According to the purpose of traveling, there are two types of a Tanzania online visa:

• Tanzania tourist visa – this Tanzania eVisa permits one to enter the country for tourism, exploring new places, sightseeing, as well as for visiting family or friends; it allows a 30-day stay;
• Tanzania business visa – you should use this type if you travel to Tanzania to attend business meetings, conferences, or conduct negotiations.

Both Tanzania visas permit a single entry.

Tanzania eVisa validity

The validity of the Tanzania eVisa can be different. The selected type of visa is what determines how long the visa stays effective.

The Tanzania single-entry tourist and business visa remain valid for 90 days from issuance. However, US citizens can enjoy a multiple-entry tourist visa to Tanzania issued for 1 year. Visits of American citizens cannot exceed 90 days in total.

Requirements for Tanzania visa online application

First of all, in order to apply for a Tanzania electronic visa, you must have a working device with a stable internet connection, the ability to pay online, and an active email address.

You also have to provide the following required documents:

• A photograph of the valid passport (it must not expire within six months after the planned date of arrival to Tanzania). Note that Tanzania eVisa links directly to the passports, so if there are any changes in the data or the passport gets lost or expired, the electronic visa to Tanzania becomes invalid too.
• A photograph of the applicant’s face – it can be taken by phone or PC camera.
• Proof of having a return ticket (for a Tanzania tourist visa) or an onward ticket (for a transit visa type).

Upon arrival, the customs officials will check the validity of two mandatory documents – a passport and a paper copy of the Tanzania eVisa. Then they will give you a stamp with the stated date of returning to your origin country or going to another country for transit purposes.
