Rwanda eVisa – General Information

A Rwanda eVisa is an online visa implemented in January 2018 to make applying process more accessible and faster. The online application form is short and intuitive. No visits to embassies or consulates are necessary.

The Rwanda online visa is accepted at international airports in Kigali and all entry points along the border. The Rwanda eVisa is delivered to the email address given in the form within several days.

The Rwanda eVisa application process includes three steps – filling in a form, paying a fee, and printing the approved travel permit. Before applying, make sure provided personal and travel information is correct, as any mistakes may cause delays or rejection of the application.

There are four electronic visa types – a single-entry visa, a multiple-entry visa, a conference visa, and an East African Online Visa. They can be used for both tourism and business-related purposes. The validity time ranges from 30 to 90 days, depending on the type selected.

An eVisa to Rwanda validity period

An online visa to Rwanda can be valid for 30 or 90 days, depending on the type. It grants 1 or 3 months of stay in the country.

Types of Rwanda electronic visas

Rwanda’s electronic visa comes in four types.

• Single-entry eVisa with one entry possible and a stay for up to 30 days
• Multiple-entry eVisa for more than one entry with 90 day-validity time
• Conference eVisa is also a single-entry travel permit with a possible stay of 30 days, but it is issued for business purposes like meetings, conferences, training, etc.
• East African Online Visa valid for 90 days with many tourism-related entries possible, allowing traveling to Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda with one entry permit.

No matter what eVisa type you choose, the permit must always be printed and kept for the entire travel to Rwanda.

Rwanda eVisa Application Instruction

Before applying for an online visa to Rwanda, make sure you have a passport that is valid. Next, prepare any working device with an internet connection. As for other necessary documents, check the ‘requirements’ section.

Please get familiar with our short application guide and use the electronic visa system to obtain the visa without leaving home. There are three steps to follow:

• Fill out an electronic application form by providing personal information, passport details, the purpose of your travel, and your email address. Enclose supporting documents. Make sure you complete the form correctly.
• Cover a visa fee by choosing one of the different online payment methods. Check for the payment confirmation and the unique application number to be delivered to your email.
• Check your mailbox. The approved Rwanda eVisa will be delivered very fast. Print it and carry it with you during the trip to Rwanda.

The Rwanda visa online stays valid only with a not-expired passport. The cost depends on the visa type.

Requirements for Rwanda visa online application

The requirements for Rwanda eVisa are not numerous. Every eligible traveler must have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the planned arrival date.

When applying, you will be asked to attach the following:

• a photo of the passport bio-data page
• an applicant face photograph (PC or mobile camera-taken photos are accepted)

Remember that you must start your Rwanda electronic visa application several days before your trip. Upon arrival, you will be controlled by customs officials, so keep the printed copy of the approved Rwandan eVisa and the passport for the rest of the travel.

Transit information

You don’t need a visa to Rwanda unless you leave the transit zone. If you plan to do so, you need to get an appropriate entry permit on arrival. You should contact the specific airlines if you want more details about this topic.
