Ukraine visa policy

Ukraine visa policy determines rules and regulations on who can enter Ukraine and if they need a Ukraine visa.

Ukraine does not impose entry bans on foreign countries, however, Ukrainian border guards leave admission or refusal of entry at their discretion, even in regard to foreigners with valid Ukraine visas.

A number of countries have visa-free access to Ukraine, its citizens can stay without a visa from 14 to 90 days, depending on nationality.

According to the Ukraine visa policy, the Ukraine visa can be obtained via two methods: the e-Visa through an online application and a regular visa by visiting the Ukraine embassy.

The electronic visa (e-Visa) to Ukraine can be applied in a speedy and easy way. Ukraine e-Visa has an entirely online application process that can be completed within several minutes.

The regular visa requires the applicant’s presence at the embassy. Citizens of countries not eligible for electronic visas to Ukraine must have a visa interview with a consular officer.

Important! Because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it is not safe to visit Ukraine right now: missile attacks can happen in any Ukrainian region.

The visa policy and other entry requirements of Ukraine can change with little notice. Please contact the Ukrainian embassy in your country for updates on entry rules and the latest safety precautions. Check whether the embassy of your country has resumed work in Ukraine.

Who can enter Ukraine?

Ukraine allows entry to nationals of all countries if they meet the visa requirements and entry restrictions of Ukraine.

Certain countries have visa-free entry, while others are eligible for a Ukraine electronic visa or a regular visa.

Note that currently, due to Russia’s full-scale invasion, it may be dangerous to visit Ukraine. Air traffic has been suspended, and entry is only allowed by land through entry ports on the border with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova.

Entry requirements for Ukraine

Visitors must have a passport valid at the time of entry and exit and containing at least one page for the entry stamp. Visa-required foreigners must also hold a Ukraine visa.

Travelers over 11 must present either COVID-19 vaccination proof or a PCR test with a negative result. It is necessary to have health insurance covering COVID-19 as well.

Persons visiting Ukraine may be requested to provide proof of sufficient funds, such as cash, bank cards with bank statements, accommodation bookings, tourist vouchers, or a letter from the inviting person or company.

Confirmation of the travel purpose and a return ticket or onward travel ticket is required.

It is illegal to enter Ukraine through a border point that is not currently controlled by the Ukrainian authorities. If you violate the rule, you may be arrested, fined, or subject to a travel ban.

You are able to legally enter Crimea only from mainland Ukraine entry points: entrance by other entry ports such as air, sea, or the Kerch Strait Bridge is illegal.
