Pakistan visa policy

The visa policy of Pakistan is a set of rules and regulations that describe eligibility for particular visas and current entry requirements to Pakistan. It differentiates an electronic visa, a visa on arrival, and a regular visa. It also underlines those that may enter Pakistan visa-free.

According to the decision of the Pakistani Government, nationals of Maldives and Nepal are guaranteed visa-free entry to Pakistan. Eligible travelers should only prepare a valid passport and a national ID card.

The Pakistan eVisa is an electronic visa that may be obtained online. It is available for travelers from 125 countries. This visa allows you to visit Pakistan for purposes including tourism, business, and transit. Depending on the selected type, it should remain valid for 1 month, 3 months, or 5 years. The eVisa is accepted only at selected entry ports.

A Pakistan VOA is a visa on arrival that may be collected at the immigration office at the Pakistani port of arrival. Nationals of 45 countries may apply for a VOA and spend up to 30 days in Pakistan. Although the visa is issued on arrival, you must complete an online application form for eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before travel.

Keep in mind that citizens of 8 selected countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Israel, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, and Uganda) are required to complete a mandatory registration on arrival in Pakistan. It may be done at the accommodation place or at the local police station.

Who can enter Pakistan?

Keep in mind nationals of two selected countries can enter Pakistan visa-free. For hassle-free travel, citizens of Maldives and Nepal should only remember to prepare their passports or national ID cards. No additional documents are required.

Methods of getting a visa to Pakistan

Depending on your country of origin, you will be considered eligible for a particular Pakistan visa. Currently, an electronic visa, visa on arrival, and regular visa are available.

Electronic visa (eVisa)

The Pakistan eVisa is a type of Tourist Visa that may be obtained through an electronic application. It allows eligible travelers to visit Pakistan for purposes of tourism, business, and transit. To apply for the online visa, complete the application form, submit the required documents, and make payment for visa processing.

The single-entry Pakistan visas are valid for up to 90 days, while the multiple-entry ones remain effective for 5 years.

Visa on arrival (VOA)

If you wish to obtain a Pakistani visa on arrival, you need to complete an online application first. It is necessary to provide your personal data and travel information. Then, upload the necessary documentation and submit your inquiry for the VOA Tourist Visa. You will receive a notice if your visa has been approved.

Collect the approved visa while entering Pakistan. An authorized VOA will be valid for 30 days from the issue date.

Regular visa

A regular visa to Pakistan is required from nationals of 70 countries. To proceed with the application, schedule an appointment at the Embassy, submit the necessary documentation, and take part in a consular interview. The visa application can be time-consuming as the average waiting time is around a few weeks.

A Pakistani regular visa should also be obtained by those eligible for the eVisa but wishing for their travel to last longer than 30 days.

Entry requirements for children

Minors are required to comply with the same visa policy of Pakistan as adults. Unless they come from a visa-exempt country, they need to apply for a suitable visa. Depending on their nationality, they should obtain an online visa, a visa on arrival, or a regular visa.

Transit information

You cannot transit through Pakistan to another country unless you have a valid Pakistan visa. If you are eligible for an online Transit Visa, you may participate in an electronic application. Otherwise, you will be required to schedule an in-person appointment at the Embassy and request a regular Transit Visa.

• To apply for a regular visa to Pakistan, you must visit the Pakistani Embassy. Prepare the essential documents and submit them in person. You will be required to participate in an interview. A regular visa may be issued both for short-term and long-term travel.
