Nigeria eVisa – basic information

Nigeria eVisa is an online visa launched by the Nigerian government to make traveling for foreign citizens easier and more accessible.

The eVisa to Nigeria enables its holders to visit the country for tourist, transit, and business purposes. Tourist and business Nigerian visas come in single-entry and multiple-entry forms and stay effective for 90 days from the issue date. The transit visa allows a stay in Nigeria for up to 7 days.

Who needs an eVisa to Nigeria

Travelers heading to Nigeria must have a Nigeria eVisa unless they come from one of the visa-exempt countries.

There are 17 countries, citizens of which can enter Nigeria without a visa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Togo.

A Nigerian visa is also not needed for former nationals of Nigeria who have a valid foreign passport together with an expired Nigerian passport. Holders of diplomatic or service passports of Brazil, China, Namibia and South Africa, as well as holders of diplomatic passports of Turkey, are visa-exempted too.

Nigeria eVisa types

There are three types of Nigeria visas:

• tourist visa – can be used for sightseeing, vacationing, recreation, visiting family members and friends, etc.; is available as a single-entry and multiple-entry visa to Nigeria;
• business visa – designed for business handling; attending business/technical meetings, participating in ongoing projects, negotiating projects, etc.; it has a single-entry and multiple-entry options;
• transit visa – a Nigerian visa for those who only pass through the country to their next destination.

eVisa Nigeria application form

The Nigeria visa application process is simple and can be completed by any person regardless of their level of computer skills. It involves the following steps:

• Choose the type of Nigeria visa according to the purposes of your travel and amount of stays.
• Fill out the online application form. You need to provide some personal and travel information and attach the required documents.
• Cover the processing fees via any payment method available.
• Wait for the decision. A valid eVisa to Nigeria will come to your email account. Download the PDF document and make a paper copy.

eVisa Nigeria validity

The validity of a Nigeria visa varies between its types. Tourist and business visas to Nigeria both stay valid for 3 months (90 days). The Nigerian transit visa is issued for 7 days only.

The period of effectiveness for all Nigeria visa types starts from the date of visa issue. During this time, you are allowed to cross the territory of Nigeria one or numerous times (depending on whether you choose a single- or multiple-entry Nigeria visa).

Nigeria eVisa requirements

The Nigeria visa application form requests only two documents:

1. Passport bio-data page photo:
   • passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of entering the country
   • the photo should be of good quality and contain all the bio-data
   • it must be in color, as black-and-white photos are not accepted
2. Applicant’s face photo:
   • must be passport-style
   • your facial features should be clearly visible
   • cannot be cut out of the passport

Transit information

If you need to travel to Nigeria in order to transit to another country, you need to apply for a transit visa type. It is valid for 7 days, so you can stay in the country for a week and then have to go to your next destination.
