Japan eVisa is an electronic visa currently available for nationals of selected countries entering Japan by air.
Eligible travelers can use the approved electronic visa to visit Japan for the purpose of tourism and stay there for up to 90 days. Since the Japan online visa is issued as a single-entry visa, its holder can enter the country only once.
An applicant needs to complete a short online application form by providing personal and passport details, and travel-related information, as well as answering a few security questions.
There are around 65 visa-exempt nations whose citizens can enter Japan for tourism or business visa-free, provided that the duration of their planned stay is between 15 and 180 days.
There are also around 180 countries that cannot enjoy visa-exempt entry to Japan and do need to obtain an appropriate visa prior to travel. Currently, the Japan eVisa system is available only to a few countries (check the list below) whose citizens plan to visit Japan for short-term leisure-related purposes.

Important: The electronic copy of the Issuance Notification must be displayed on an electronic device to board a flight to Japan. Japanese officials do not currently accept PDF or printed copies of approved electronic visas.
The Japan visa is issued for three months (90 days) from the day following its issuance. Please do remember to enter and exit Japan within the validity period of a visa you hold.
Please also note that your Japan visa will be automatically linked to your passport. Should you renew your passport once your eVisa has been already approved, you will need to obtain a new visa linked to your renewed passport. Do remember to check your passport expiry date before applying for a Japan visa.
No visa is needed, regardless of your nationality, if you plan to transit through Japan and stay within the airport transit zone.

No. At the moment, no PDF or printed versions of the Japanese eVisa are accepted. You will need to display the electronic copy of the Issuance Notification on a digital device.

As a rule, applications that require no corrections are processed within 5 business days (e.g., if you apply for a visa on Monday, you should expect to receive it on the following Monday). If you are asked to provide additional information, or some mistakes are made in your online form, the waiting time may extend as it is at the total discretion of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
