Do I Need an ETA to Australia?

Types of Australian eVisa

ETA (subclass 601)

Electronic Travel Authority is issued as a multiple-entry visa serving tourism and business purposes. ETA remains valid for 12 months from the date of issue, while its holder is allowed numerous 3-month entries to Australia.

eVisitor (subclass 651)

The eVisitor visa is also a multiple-entry travel authorization issued to citizens of all European countries. eVisitor, similarly to ETA, is issued for 1 year, and every single entry to Australia can last up to 90 days.

As a holder of an ETA or eVisitor visa, you may travel to Australia for:

• tourism: all kinds of leisure-related activities such as family and friend reunions, vacationing, exploring tourist attractions, or cruising;
• business: handling business affairs, e.g., negotiating contracts, looking for potential business partners, and attending business events and conferences.

Requirements for ETA to Australia

Before submitting your online request, be sure to double-check your eligibility for the ETA/eVisitor visa and prepare the essential documentation:

eVisitor Visa

• a digital colour copy of your passport with a 6-month validity

ETA (Electronic Travel Authority)

• a digital colour copy of your passport in excellent quality, valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel
• recent face photographs captured with a smartphone camera

When arriving in Australia, the border authorities will use your passport to verify if you hold the required entry permit.

Processing Time for Australia ETA

In general, applicants are granted Australia ETA and eVisitor visas within one day. In special cases, the process can take 3 working days.

Transit Information

Every traveller transiting through Australia, regardless of the duration of their stop, will need to obtain a visa – either by completing the process online or by visiting the Australian embassy.
