Vietnam eVisa General Information

The Vietnam eVisa is an electronic visa issued for all eligible foreigners by the Vietnam Immigration Department. The eVisa program was introduced to make the application process easier. It allows travelers to enter Vietnam for tourism, business, or transit purposes.

The online visa to Vietnam permits you to stay in the country for up to 90 days and is valid for the same amount of time. The validity period starts one day before the expected date of entering the country.

You can request either a single-entry or multiple-entry eVisa to Vietnam.

Every traveler must have a separate online visa, including children. Applications for underage travelers have to be submitted by their parents or guardians.

The Vietnam eVisa application process is conducted online. The approved Vietnam eVisa will be delivered to your email address. It must be printed out.

The Vietnam visa processing time takes only a few days, but it may be prolonged. Applicants should register for a Vietnamese online visa at least five working days before their planned journey.

Citizens of the following countries can enter Vietnam visa-free:

• Chile – 90 days
• Cambodia, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand – 30 days
• Philippines – 21 days
• Brunei, Myanmar – 14 days
• Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Norway, Russia, Sweden, United Kingdom, Italy – 15 days.

Travelers who want to stay in Vietnam for up to 15 days should note that each visit must be separated by a break of 30 days. If they need to stay longer, it is necessary for them to apply for a Vietnam visa online before the trip.

Types of Vietnamese Electronic Visas

Depending on the purpose of the travel, the Vietnamese online visa can be divided into three different types:

• Vietnam Tourism eVisa – for travelers who want to go to the country for vacation, sightseeing, or visiting their friends and relatives
• Vietnam Business eVisa – for people who intend to handle business affairs, negotiate contracts, or discuss cooperation and new opportunities
• Vietnam Transit eVisa – for those who need to enter Vietnam in order to get to their next destination.

All applicants may request a single-entry or a multiple-entry permit.

Vietnam eVisa Application Instruction

It has never been easier to get a Vietnamese visa – now, you can do it from the comfort of your home. There is no need to visit the Vietnam Embassy or participate in consular interviews. The Vietnam visa online application process is accessible to everyone and takes a few clicks.

• Fill out the application form – provide some personal details and travel information such as name, surname, citizenship, e-mail address, date of arrival, and date of departure
• Upload essential documents – attach two copies of biometric photographs of your face and a bio-data page of your passport with at least 6 months validity period
• Cover the visa processing fee – make the payment using one of many available options, for example, a credit card, debit card, or PayPal

Once you have completed the online application procedure, wait for the approval of your Vietnam visa. The average processing time is around a few working days but it may be prolonged in some situations.

The approved Vietnam online visa will be sent in PDF form to your e-mail address. Keep in mind that it must be printed out before travel.

Requirements for Vietnam Visa Online Application

To apply for a Vietnamese eVisa, you must be a citizen of an eligible country and have a working electronic device with stable Internet access.

For the visa application, it is necessary to provide the required documents:

• photograph of a valid passport bio-data page – the passport must remain valid within six months from the arrival date,
• photograph of an applicant’s face – it can be taken by phone or camera but a photo taken by a professional would be best.

On arrival, immigration officers will check your Vietnam eVisa, so you must have a paper copy with you. Note that only some entry points accept online visas – you should decide which port you choose in advance.

Vietnam Online Visa Validity

The Vietnamese online visa remains valid for 3 months. The validity period starts the day before the planned arrival in the country. Once you cross the borders of Vietnam, you are allowed to stay there until the visa expiry date.

Moreover, it is possible to request a visa renewal. To extend the validity of your visa, schedule an appointment at the local Immigration Department Office.

Transit Information

Each foreign visitor who needs to pass through Vietnam to another country should obtain a suitable visa. If you are eligible for the Vietnamese Transit eVisa, complete the online application. Otherwise, you should visit the Embassy and request a regular visa.
